Bolstered by reaction to last night's post about the songwriting workshops I did at Huntsham Court from 1995-2002, I've had a search on Youtube and found a few songs I co-wrote there that actually got released..here's one of them:
Esthero's "Nearly Civilised", which became the theme for X-Box Bond game (Pierce Brosnan era) "Night Fire"...[never played it, any good?]...written by Esthero, Paul Alex Campbell and me.
They even flew me and Paul out to Canada to record/produce it...them were't days! :-)

Overwhelmed by another FB friend's kindness (Mr David Jarvis), who sent me this wonderful boxset he's put together (5 CDs and 2 DVDs, and 8 page booklet!!!).
A bit of background...
From 1995-2002 I attended EMI Music Publisher's annual songwriting workshop at Huntsham Court in Devon, a fabulous rambling hotel, no locks on room doors, honesty bar, no phones or mobile reception, no distractions...magical place.
It lasted a week, the idea being you'd work in three's, writing a song a day, and then (this was the scary but fun bit) having to perform the song after the evening meal (which was filmed/recorded).
I got to write with some amazing people: Kirsty MacColl, Sia, Desmond Child, Suggs, Eleanor McEvoy, Lamont Dozier, Graham Gouldman, Jamie Petrie, Miles Benedict, Caroline Lavelle, Katie Cook, Natasha Brice, Peter Cox, Richard Drummie, Paul Alex Campbell, Michael Harwood, Nick Keynes, Claire Worrall, Cathy Dennis, Steve Balsamo, Anthony Kavanagh, Esthero and many others...and it definitely changed the way I write, I learned so much from all these people.
So... I get a message on Facebook earlier this year from above-mentioned David Jarvis (who's been sorting out Graham Gouldman's massive archive) looking for any songs that Graham and I might have recorded together (after we met at Huntsham we've written quite a few times in the past 20 years).
I dug out many songs I'd forgotten about, but being such a hoarder, I also found original lyrics, letters, even a 1996 Q article about Huntsham Writing Week, and David's put it all together in a booklet to accompany this magnificent package.
Oh, and he's also manage to digitize ALL the videos I had of the evening performances, of Graham and myself, together and with others.
This'll keep me amused during lockdown #2 🙂 ... See MoreSee Less

Big thanks to David Jones for kindly letting me have his spare ex-Metropolitan Borough of Wirral Library copy of Deaf School's Live in Liverpool "2nd Coming" LP, recorded in June 1988.
I was at both Liverpool gigs, even got up on the encore to accompany Ms Bette Bright & band on a rousing rendition of 'My Boyfriend's Back' (her single from 1978 that I'd played Farfisa Organ on).
What a great night it was...anybody go?
I'm reminded that Nick Lowe and Suggs also got up and did a few songs. ... See MoreSee Less
